You Deserve More Than "Just Live With It"

Living around your bathroom schedule, hiding your skin, and dreading the week before your period - that's not a life. That's survival mode.

I'M HERE TO GET YOU OUT OF IT

I was the child at the doctor's that nobody could figure out.

A week-long episode of paralysis at a young age. Shoulders that dislocated from picking up a bike. Joint pain that doctors shrugged off as growing pains. Except I never grew out of it. Nothing was ever catastrophic enough to take seriously. And somehow, that made it harder.

Growing up in Hawaiʻi, food was never just food. It was how we connected, celebrated, and showed love. Watching health quietly unravel in the people around me, I knew food had to be part of the answer. So I became a dietitian.

And I spent years doing it wrong.

Not because I didn't care. I cared more than anything. But the system I was trained in had me prescribing the same generic diets on repeat, treating lab values instead of people, and calling it nutrition. I knew this wasn't it. I just didn't have the tools yet.

Meanwhile, my own body was sending up flares I kept ignoring. Chronic joint pain. Acne that wouldn't budge. Hair falling out. Bloating and stomach issues from foods I'd been told were healthy. Bone-deep fatigue I kept chalking up to not trying hard enough. I was a dietitian telling myself to push through while quietly falling apart.

It took running my own functional labs to finally get the truth: gut dysbiosis, hypochlorhydria, low testosterone, and Hashimoto's disease. Not a willpower problem. A biology problem that nobody had bothered to look for.

Healing changed everything. My energy, my skin, my relationship with food, my entire understanding of what nutrition can actually do.

Now I work with people who are done being told their labs are "normal" while they feel anything but. People who've tried everything and blamed themselves when it didn't work. People who deserve someone who will actually look at their history, their patterns, their whole picture, and help them find real answers.

That's what I'm here for. And I'd love to do it for you.

DOCTOR OF CLINICAL NUTRITION, FUNCTIONAL DIETITIAN, & YOUR HEALTH GAME CHANGER

MY  APPROACH

Understanding your health requires more than reviewing lab results. Your experiences, symptoms, and daily routines provide important context. I take the time to understand your full story so that your care reflects what you are actually experiencing rather than relying on assumptions or generalized advice.

Food as Nourishment,
Not Restriction

Many symptoms have become so widespread that people are told they are simply a normal part of life. Fatigue, digestive discomfort, hormone fluctuations, and weight challenges are often dismissed this way. However, common does not always mean optimal. My approach focuses on identifying the deeper factors that may be contributing rather than accepting symptoms as inevitable.

The truth is, the answer to most nutrition questions is “it depends.” Instead of applying a generic plan, your strategy is built around your health history, lifestyle, goals, and available lab data so the recommendations truly fit your life.

You deserve to feel at ease around food and confident in how you nourish your body. For that reason, my approach does not center on calorie counting, macro tracking, or relying on the scale as the primary measure of success. While numbers can occasionally provide context, they are not the focus. Instead, we look at meaningful indicators of progress such as how you feel day to day, improvements in symptoms, lab results, and the sustainable habits you build over time.

Nutrition should not feel like constant limitation. Instead of focusing heavily on removing foods, we focus on building meals that provide the nutrients your body needs to function well. When the body is consistently nourished, balance often develops naturally without rigid rules or unnecessary restriction.

Nutrition advice changes constantly online, but my approach is grounded in evidence rather than trends. I rely on established research and clinical reasoning when making recommendations. My goal is not to offer quick fixes or popular diets, but to guide you toward strategies that genuinely support your health. I only recommend approaches that I believe will truly benefit you.

WORDS THAT SPEAK LOUDER THAN MINES

"Meeting with Dr. Shaelyn is like chatting with an old friend. The conversation flows easily and I am always really impressed with her knowledge and holistic/functional approach to nutrition. She makes sure to pause throughout our session and asks if I have questions and takes her time explaining the why behind what she was recommending. I am so happy to have found Dr. Shaelyn."

"Dr. Shaelyn really listened to all my health concerns, disordered eating issues, and much more. I've never really felt like someone HEARD me, but she did. I love that she completely individualizes her services versus lumping people into a category with a standard meal plan."

"Dr. Shaelyn is extremely knowledgeable and her support goes beyond her expertise in nutrition. She takes me as a whole person into account, lifestyle, stressors, acknowledging small victories, and professional recommendations for improvement"

"Dr. Shaelyn's observations and recommendations are always on point. She also draws from her own experiences based on what I'm sharing to illustrate different ways of doing things or trying different things. A very active listener, which is another skill that makes her so strong, capable, and impactful"

"Dr. Shaelyn has been incredibly communicative and truly listened to everything I shared. That's huge, since I'm cynical. Dr. Shaelyn covered a lot of territory in our deep dive and 3 weeks in I lost 12 lbs without exercising!"
